Coconut Creek, Florida, in Broward county, is 1 miles E of Margate (center to center) and 33 miles N of Miami. The city is named after the vast number of coconut trees planted by developers. Coconut Creek is included in the South Florida Metropolitan area. The City Commission's Main Street Design Standards document requires the development of the downtown area to create a mix use community and include a substantial amount of recreational open space.
